Operating Survey

The ICBA Operating Survey is a defining example of the institutional store culture to share success towards mutual improvements. The ICBA Operating Survey includes confidential data about each participating store. It is used for benchmarking, strategic planning and networking. This resource provides members with a road-map for continued success, solid measures of performance and opportunities to learn from one another.

Considered to be one of the most valued membership benefits, the ICBA Operating Survey is available to all Independent College Bookstore Association members that choose to participate. Each year at the annual conference in February, stores achieving outstanding financial performance are recognized for their accomplishments.

ICBA Partners with KPMG for Operating Survey Platform
As of July 2013 the ICBA Operating Survey functions on a database driven platform designed for ICBA by KPMG. Members enter their data through a web interface. This new development was first introduced to members in February at the ICBA 2013 Conference.

The ICBA Operating Survey is a two-part survey:

  • ICBA Survey 1 – Practice & Preferences Survey  This survey opens on July 1 and closes on August 15. Results are reported to stores in September.
  • ICBA Survey 2 – Store Profile & Supplemental Financial Information This survey opens July 1 and closes September 30. Results from the first survey are consolidated with results from the second survey and reported to stores in October.

Store Awards
Awards for the 2012-2013 Operating Survey were given in February at the ICBA 2014 Retail Conference. Several outstanding ICBA stores were recognized for demonstrating excellence through internal leadership, strategy development and execution.
